Andre Sims is the second oldest of six children. In 2003 his mother Iris began experiencing memory loss symptoms. The family soon discovered that it was the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. The family initially provided Iris’s care at home, but they knew they would need to seek professional help. Knowing how expensive nursing care is, Andre recalled, the family became
frightened and panicked because they did not know what to do. They were facing a crisis.
In 2004 Barron Ross met with Andre and educated him on the Long-Term Care Entitlement Benefits that were available to his mother. An Asset Protection Plan was quickly put together to help the Sims family access Entitlement Benefits that would pay for Iris’s nursing care.
Barron Ross and Andre then worked together to find a nursing home that would be right for Iris. Andre found a care facility that was close to home, and Barron Ross handled the enrollment paperwork. Because Barron Ross helped Andre be in control of the entire process, Iris received the right professional care from a nursing home of Andre’s choice.
As a result of Barron Ross’s efforts, Iris Sims was able to save her savings and her home. Without Entitlement Benefits, Iris would have had to sell her home to pay for nursing care. Now, she was able to pass her home down to her children, which was one of her biggest wishes. Another wish Iris had was for Andre to become her Durable Power of Attorney agent. Barron Ross was able to help her fulfill this wish as well.
Note: Andre volunteered to disclose Mrs. Sims health condition in an effort to raise more awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.
